Song of the Pines Chorus is a membership organization of female singers, who meet regularly to practice, perform, socialize, and have fun. We currently have approximately 30 singers of all ages and walks of life. Most of our members come from the Prescott Quad-City area, but we also have members who drive from Sedona, Scottsdale, Sun City and other adjacent cities.
The main purpose of Song of the Pines Chorus is to get out and sing for our community. We present community concerts and perform at a number of community events. We also deliver Singing Telegrams all year long. While we are most famous for our Singing Valentines, we also deliver special greetings for Mother's Day, Birthdays, Anniversaries or any occasion of your choice. If you're looking for a unique musical entertainment for your event, please check out our Hire Us section.
In addition to sharing our music with others, we share a passion for learning more about the art of acappella singing. Vocal instruction is a regular part of chorus rehearsals, and a very important component of the chorus experience. Throughout the course of the year, we receive coaching from experts in the art of barbershop harmony. Some of our most recent coaches have included Lori Lyford, Kim Vaughn, Bette Gordon, Jana Gutenson and Chris Robertson. Each Spring, Song of the Pines Chorus participates in the Region 21 chorus competition. Region 21 encompasses portions of Southern California, Texas, Arizona and New Mexico. Regional competitions are a special time for quartets and choruses to come together to receive constructive feedback from a panel of judges. The winners of the regional competition in both quartet and chorus categories move to the International competition level, which is held in the Fall of each year. In 2012, our International Competition will be held in Denver.
Within choruses, members often form their own quartets.
Song of the Pines Chorus strongly encourages quartet singing, and is proud to support
A La Mode, a performing, registered quartet that is comprised of Song of the Pines members, Deb Sanders (lead), Lauren Williamson (bass), Penny Cimo (tenor) and Rosemary Baltensberger (baritone). SOTP also has a small ensemble of six to eight singers called the Extension Chords who perform in the community where smaller groups are requested.
Song of the Pines Chorus is a chapter of Sweet Adelines, International, a non-profit organization of approximately 30,000 members in choruses and quartets, worldwide. The Headquarters is in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
